Frequently Asked Questions at Kennesaw Classic Vision Care

Where can I get an eye check in Kennesaw?

It’s really important, and really easy, to get an eye check in Kennesaw. You don’t need a specific reason to get an eye check. It’s best to get examined regularly for the sake of preventing future issues developing.

Eye health issues can strike anyone for any number of reasons. Many people make the mistake of thinking they’re ‘exempt’ from eye issues due to not falling under the common risk factors

However, a lot of eye issues can’t even be detected by the individual until a great deal of damage has already been done to their eyes. Even if you’re not genetically or otherwise predisposed to having eye issues, lifestyle factors like computer usage can cause major complications.

Eye issues do not just pop up overnight, so it’s a good idea to have a check completed by a doctor, especially in an age where we’re using screens more than ever.

You can get an easy-to-access eye check out our Kennesaw location. You’ll find us at 1615 Ridenour Blvd Suite 201, Kennesaw, GA.

We offer a whole range of eye checks depending on your concerns and to look into the full picture of your eye health.

Our services are outlined here and include tests for issues like glaucoma, myopia, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, macular degeneration and more. Why not get everything checked out just to be on the safe side?

Be sure to head online and book an appointment, or give us a phone call on (770) 499-2020.

How often do I need to get an eye check?

If you have no prior medical conditions of which you are aware and do not fall into any risk categories, the CDC states that you should seek out an dilated eye test if you notice symptoms like:

  • Changes in your vision
  • Dry or red eyes
  • Lights or ‘halos’ appearing around objects when you look at them

If you feel any sort of pain in your eyes, that’s a very smart reason to go get checked out for an eye exam, too!

If you are aware of a genetic condition that impacts your eye health or that can be detected via an eye test, and you’ve never had an eye test before, you should book a test as soon as you’re able. A common example of a medical condition that necessitates eye tests is diabetes, which we’ve covered in more depth below.

Some other risk categories for glaucoma in particular include:

  • African Americans 40 years and older
  • All adults older than 60, especially Mexican Americans
  • People with a family history of glaucoma

If you fall into these above demographics, you’re recommended by the CDC to get a check up on your eyes every two years.

Where can I get an eye check-up for a child in Kennesaw?

Depending on various circumstances, such as health and genetic conditions, your child’s recommended eye check-up schedule may vary from the standard US guidelines above. You may need to have your child take a test before the 3 to 5-year mark.

Our expert doctors and staff will provide you with precise answers to these crucial questions, giving you reassurance as a parent. Every case is different, but checking with a doctor early if you suspect your child has eye issues is a great move, so don’t stress too much through the initial process!

Give us a call or book your appointment online if you’re wondering about your child’s specific eye care needs. We’re trained in pediatric eye health and will make the experience as seamless as possible for you and your child.

What are my options for accessing diabetes eye checks in Kennesaw?

Eye health and diabetes are closely interlinked, and we make these tests readily available as a priority for the Kennesaw community’s health.

Diabetes is a genetic condition in which eye tests play a crucial role. Diabetes can be detected as part of a dilated eye exam. If you can achieve early detection of diabetes, you’ll have knowledge of your exact health status, and you will very likely be able to manage your condition with fewer complications.

It is worth noting that if you have already been diagnosed with diabetes, you should book an eye test as soon as you are diagnosed with the condition. From there, you can come back for regular testing every two years.

What is the recommended age for a child’s first eye check in the US?

According to the US Office for Disease Prevention, parents should think about getting their child’s eye checked between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. It’s good for a professional to assess things to make sure their eyes are developing normally, so don’t write it off if your child isn’t experiencing any obvious eyesight problems.

If you’re a parent, navigating the many health milestones for your child can be tricky, as there are so many important check-ups and appointments you need to keep on top of. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about this at Kennesaw Classic Vision Care! Our friendly team is more than happy to answer your questions about the suitable times to get your child’s eye health examined

Where can I access a glaucoma check in Kennesaw?

Among our other services, we also offer glaucoma eye checks at our Classic Vision Care locations. This is a test we definitely recommend you get proactively to avoid serious health issues down the track.

Glaucoma is an eye disease that involves the loss of your peripheral vision through the gradual deterioration of your eye’s main nerve. This deterioration happens gradually in a lot of cases, making it hard to detect the onset of glaucoma on your own until the disease has progressed significantly.

Research into glaucoma has indicated that 6% of Americans are affected by glaucoma, and up to 50% of patients who develop the condition are not even aware of the associated visual changes until it is too late to treat it. Early signs can include a sense of ‘tunnel vision’.

Neglecting glaucoma in its earlier stages can lead to very serious consequences later on, and blindness is key among them. Book an eye health appointment as a regular, pre-emptive measure against glaucoma so you can identify and treat the condition as soon as possible. Don’t wait until you start noticing symptoms to get tested!

If you have a medical condition such as diabetes or blood pressure issues, you are at an even greater risk of developing this common eye condition than the general population. It’s definitely worth making regular eye checks a priority in this case.
